Christopher Nolan Lands Saturn Awards Honor

Emily Blunt will present the honor to her 'Oppenheimer' director on Feb. 4.

Christopher Nolan is headed to the Saturn Awards, where the filmmaker will be honored with the genre-focused ceremony’s visionary award.

Nolan’s Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt will present the honor at a ceremony on Feb. 4. Jeffrey Katzenberg, Kevin Feige and James Cameron are previous recipients of the visionary award.

The Saturn Awards date back to 1973, with the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films having previously honored Nolan for writing his features Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception and Interstellar. He won for directing Inception as well. This year, he is nominated for writing and for directing Oppenheimer, the R-rated biopic that surprised by becoming an outsizd commercial hit, grossing $953 million globally.

“Mr. Nolan’s exceptional and groundbreaking work has not only entertained and enlightened audiences for years, but most recently with the seminal Oppenheimer, he continues to contribute to the art of cinema by exploring the advent and fallout of the nuclear arms race. We believe this Award is truly deserved,” said Academy President Robert Holguin and Saturn Awards producers Bradley and Kevin Marcus.

Several Nolan films have previously taken home top honors at the awards. Batman Begins won best fantasy film, The Dark Knight won best action or adventure film, while Inception and Interstellar took home best science fiction film.

The Saturn Awards ceremony begins at 4 p.m. and will stream live on ElectricNOW.
